When the roads get dangerous to drive on in the winter, you want a set of tires on your vehicle that you can depend on to get you home safely.
Purchasing a set of dedicated winter tires is more than just buying pieces of rubber. It’s an investment in your safety and well-being. If you live in an area that encounters rough winter conditions, then I’m sure you’ve noticed that the tires on your truck or SUV have difficulty retaining traction on the road. Due to the weight of your vehicle, more force is required to brake and accelerate, which can result in frequent sliding on snow and ice during the winter months.
The Blizzak DM-V1, Bridgestone’s winter tire for the drivers of trucks, SUVs and crossovers, inspires confidence behind the wheel in even the harshest winter driving conditions. It eliminates the fear from winter driving by preventing loss of traction and unwanted accidents in the rough winter weather.
The Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V1 is branded with the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol to show it meets the industry’s severe snow service requirements. This tire’s winter performance is exactly what you’d hope for from a big brand like Bridgestone, and their performance in the dry is sure to catch you by surprise.
A common problem with winter tires is that as the temperatures begin to drop, the rubber gets hard and starts to lose traction. In an effort to prevent loss of traction in freezing temperatures, Bridgestone’s Blizzak DM-V1 employs a unique Multicell Z compound which is molded into a directional tread pattern. The compound is infused with a silica-silane mixture to increase wet grip and improve traction on snow and ice by making the tread more flexible in cold conditions. The Multicell Z compound also contains microscopic bubbles and tubes that sucks up the thin layer of water that forms on top of packed snow and ice. And the zigzag siping pattern creates multiple biting edges for better grip on snow and ice covered surfaces.
Their overall wet weather performance is great. No hydroplaning issues and braking is fantastic. In order to increase wet and slush traction, and to cancel out any risk of hydroplaning, the Blizzak DM-V1 features four straight circumferential grooves combined with two criss-crossing center grooves.Any water on the road is quickly evacuated and drained away from the tire’s surface for grip that bites on hard to the road.
Due to the unpredictable nature of winter driving conditions, along with the weight of your truck or SUV, it’s important you grab a set of tires that are tough and durable. For extra strength and stability, Bridgestone have opted to use two steel belts that are reinforced with nylon inside the Blizzak DM-V1.
Now the only drawback to the Blizzak DM-v1 is that when the Multicell Z compound wears out, there’s a significant drop off in winter traction and handling. When the Blizzak DM-V1’s tread is 50 percent worn, a depth indicator which is molded into the tread design will let you know that the tire is approaching the end of its ability to provide reliable snow traction. While the first 55% of the Blizzak DM-v1’s tread features the Multicell Z compound, the rest of the tread features a standard winter tire compound.
The Blizzak DM-V1 is available in 61 sizes from15 to 22 inches, however unfortunately it doesn’t come with a treadwear warranty. Instead, Bridgestone offers a 30-day trial period for you to test out the tire on your vehicle, and if you’re not satisfied with their performance, you can return the tires for a full refund.
