The Blizzak WS80 is Bridgestone’s studless ice and snow tire designed to see the drivers of coupes, sedans and minivans safely through the winter. It’s also featured on our list of best winter tires.
These tires respond expertly to bad weather. They grip the road like crazy and deliver stability and control in dry, icy and snowy conditions no matter how aggressively you drive.
The Blizzak WS80 molds Bridgestone’s special NanoPro-Tech multicell compound into a directional tread design that features 20% more block edges compared to the previous model, the WS70, for improved grip on all surfaces. This Multicell compound acts like a sponge and pulls water away from the surface as it grips the pavement, so traction when driving on slush, hard-packed snow and ice covered pavement is outstanding. Normally when the temperatures drop to near or below freezing, a tire’s rubber will harden and traction will decrease, but this clever compound keeps the tread surface flexible and sticky for unbelievable grip in cold conditions.
You can typically expect to see 12,000 to 15,000 miles before wearing out the Multicell compound. When the Blizzak WS80’s tread is approximately 50 percent worn, you will know. A tread depth indicator lets you know that only 10 percent of the remaining tread is Multicell compound.
The Blizzak WS70 wades through water and slices through snow. The grooves on the tread are specifically designed to help channel water and snow out of and away from the tire. Also, there’s a zigzag siping pattern creates numerous biting edges for powerful traction. These tires allow you to drill right through snow.
On ice, the Blizzak WS80 remains controlled and composed. No quick breakaways or exaggerated sliding. Turn in and cornering stability is fantastic with little to no understeer. However, if they do let loose, they bounce back quickly and recover with predictable handling and braking.
With the Blizzak WS80 on your vehicle, you don’t have to worry about hydroplaning on wet pavement. These tires navigate wet roads as if they were dry. When they do breakaway on wet pavement it’s easy to handle.
Dry traction and handling is terrific. It feels like you’re running on all season tires. There’s no pull in the steering and in the corners they remain balanced and precise without rolling over too much on the sidewall.
In terms of ride comfort, the Blizzak WS80 produces no excessive road noise and they ride smoothly on all sorts of pavement.
Overall, the ride quality, noise level and traction on dry, wet, snow and ice covered pavement is outstanding. And they deliver an immediate feeling of security when driving on in foul weather
