Continental makes the rubber for the likes of Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, but are they good enough for you?

Let’s take a look at the Continental ExtremeContact DW. A powerful maximum performance tire that has a fine balance of affordability, tread wear, ample grip, comfort and noise.

They stand out from the crowd as the economical choice that still gives you the ability to extract every last drop of performance and driving enjoyment from your car.

With a design that give sincere consideration to wet driving and tread life, the Continental Extreme Contact DW achieves first-rate grip under all conditions, while managing to remain predictable no how hard you push.

The DW (D for dry,W for wet) have a pretty cool tread pattern with a nice, extra wide profile. The folks over at Continental have been so kind as to mark D and W indicators in the tread that disappear when the tire is no longer suitable to be driven in a particular condition. Now it doesn’t get much easier than that, does it?

Top of the class for wet handling and wet braking

Wet performance is where this tire really shines, as the Continental ExtremeContact DW handles wet conditions flawlessly without any issues. This is down to improved rain grooves in the tread pattern that quickly clears water away from the road surface to make them less susceptible to hydroplanning.

But don’t worry, Continental haven’t completely traded off wet weather capabilities for dry traction. They still deliver insane grip in the dry. The ‘Chamfered’ tread blocks and solid outer shoulders make the tire extra stable to massively improve high-speed braking. They hold your car tightly to the road and almost completely eliminate understeer, even at the limit.

And because the Continental ExtremeContact DW is made out of a soft silica-based tread compound, they provide plenty of feedback to deliver amazing ride comfort.

Also, they’re relatively quiet, even at high speeds on the highway, but noise levels can pick up as the tire starts to wear. And they do have a slight tendency for flat spotting, so make sure you give them time to warm up after having your car parked for long periods of time.

Oh, and please don’t attempt to use these tires in the snow,as you may end up injuring yourself, others, or worse, your car.

A terrific compromise between all out handling and comfort.

Continental are a company that truly believe in the quality and performance of their tires, and it’s hard to argue with them. The Continental Extremecontact DW is backed by a 60-day customer ride guarantee, a manufacturer’s workmanship warranty for 72 months with a free replacement for up to 12 months, and road hazard coverage for 12 months.
And while there are some similar tires out there that perform somewhat better, you’ll have to pay twice as much. So if you value money that bit more than performance, and still want a quiet, comfortable ride with a long tread life, the Continental ExtremeContact DW is the tire for you.
