Are you looking to have an eye-catching stylish look on your car’s wheels? Well I have just the right thing for you. General tire is back in the desert racing grounds, with a very big bang! The genesis of it all was when Continental Tire North America acquired the General Brand.

GE Grabber Blackwall 525QR0GRAB Tread

They hatched a simple plan- Develop a race winning tire then tune it a tad bit lower for public use. And boy did they strike a sweet tooth! Join me as we look at the specifics of this new Grabber which has earned its respect on the streets with its red-labeled sidewalls.

What is the General Grabber?

The General Grabber is an all season, all terrain tire from Continental Tire. It has got the DNA of a desert-racing thoroughbred but that won’t stop it from staging an outstanding performance in other fields. It combines purposeful attributes such as staggered stone deflectors on the sidewalls with special high-caliber steel belts to increase the Grabber’s puncture resistance. This is in essence a tire that would survive the worst imaginable desert conditions yet still transfer this great performance to the highway.

Features

  • DURAGEN TECHNOLGY This uses extra-strong steel belts and microfiber casing reinforcements to produce a strong and durable tire.
  • ADAPTIVE PERFORMANCE – The tire features response Grooves and Stabilink Bars that make it an all-terrain tire that promotes enhanced steering response.
  • COMFORT/BALANCE – An all-new tread cushioning system and noise-capturing pockets which provide a quieter, more comfortable ride without sacrificing responsiveness.
  • ECO RIDE – This is a new-generation tread compound technology that reduces rolling resistance. It is meant to reduce CO2 emissions making the tire eco friendly.

Dry Performance

On dry surface, the Grabber does better when worn by heavier trucks. When mounted on a lighter vehicle, the ride quality is a bit rougher but still likeable. Lowering the pressure in the grabber gives you a much suppler ride even with a lighter SUV.

Wet Performance

The Grabber’s obvious lack of siping is noticeable on wet concrete surfaces like gas stations. There is no hydroplaning when you hit a puddle, this we thought was attributable to the long circumferential grooves. The tire maintains a decently quiet ride for its segment and seems to grab better where others would slip.

Off-Road Performance

The dirt is the Grabber’s favorite playground. It shines really well on dry loose surfaces such as those in river beds and washes. The Grabber also tackles muddy hillsides with authority and manages favorable results. Just keep the pressure low to allow the Grabber to grab the terrain. On sand, the Grabber tackles its forte with a pleasant familiarity so you have no reason to worry about sand dunes.

Winter Performance

Due to a lack of siping and a compound better suited for hot climates, you will have an encounter that will remind you why there are tires built specifically with a winter tread. This could be interpreted to mean that the Grabber will not be doing well in the Northern regions where snow sticks around longer.

The Bottom Line

Overall, this is an excellent desert tire that runs well on the street and has an uncanny ability to handle rocks and mud. We highly recommend that you get a set for your SUV or truck.
