To begin with, the Kumho Ecsta PA31 is enhanced with a new high-tech tread compound as well as directional  tread pattern which work hand in hand to deliver better grip on either wet or dry pavements. This also ensures increased steering response not to forgetting braking capabilities and cornering stability.

Additionally, the tire features four circumferential grooves not to mention numerous cross grooves that reduce the risk of hydroplaning and enhance wet traction. The tire is also modeled to adapt to winter conditions through high density sipes which are around the treads with unique edges on tread blocks which give the tire added bite and aggression in ice, snow or rain.

Furthermore, the inside of the tire is reinforced with two steel belts which are fortified with a nylon cover. In addition that, the sidewalls are stronger thanks to the Kumho Escot technology that optimizes tension distribution. Through the use of pitch shoulder blocks which are variable in nature, road noise is reduced and ride comfort enhanced.

Pros and Cons

The Kumho Ecsta PA31 has proven itself as an excellent performer in all seasons (but it’s still not the best all-season out there by any stretch of imagination)! With traction, ride comfort being impressive and the handling throughout the year being good the tire will give you value for your money.  An overall estimation of its braking performance on wet or dry surfaces is average and that is why there should be an improvement in wet traction especially at high speed.

As much as it is an all-season tire, naturally its performance in ice and snow in still mediocre but not so bad after all. Though much is expected from the tire, it still delivers maximum solid performance.
