Are you the proud driver of a jeep, pickup truck or a sport utility vehicle?
Do you need an all terrain, all season tire that delivers great year-round traction and is quiet and well behaved on the road?
Have you heard of the Kumho Road Venture AT51?
It’s a light truck tire that gives you off-road command combined with good on-road manners.
Due to its impeccable on-road behaviour, this tire is perfect if you spend most your time on the highway, but like to take your vehicle off-road for an adventure now and again. Or if you’re looking for a tough tire at a great price to navigate muddy job sites or rural gravel roads.
Normally comfort is the first factor to be sacrificed when designing on all-terrain tire, but with the Road Venture AT51, this isn’t the case. You can expect to enjoy a smooth, quiet ride without the harshness you might expect from an all-terrain tire. And you won’t even have to think about road noise.
Now in order to enhance all weather grip and durability, kumho have molded a cut-resistant dual silica compound into a symmetric design with a wide tread that has been expertly engineered to cool quickly and evenly for long tread wear and better fuel efficiency. While remaining sturdy enough to withstand cuts, punctures and bruising from rough off-road terrain.
But what about its wintertime capabilities?
Good question. Snow performance is one of the focus points of the Kumho Road Venture. It handles snow and blizzards in an almost cocky fashion due to angled chamfers that creates hundreds of gripping edges to propel your vehicle forward. Each tire is branded with the mountain/snowflake symbol to show it meets the requirements of the Rubber Manufacturers Association for snow traction.
The tapered tread grooves do an admirable job of cleaning the tire of stones, dirt and snow. But while traction on all types of terrain is good, very deep mud may cause you more than a few problems. It won’t stop the build of mud like a dedicated mud tire will.
The deep central grooves quickly channel snow and water away from the footprint area. Grip, stability and handling are superb in heavy weather with minimal risk of hydroplaning.
A great all rounder that does everything well, but doesn’t stand out in any one area
Brilliant traction on and off the highway, long mileage and low noise make the Kumho Road Venture AT51 a worthy choice for the drivers of today’s pickup trucks and SUVs.
Kumho back this tire with a 55k tread warranty and is available in 43 different sizes.
But I have to say, the Kumho Road Venture matches up well with the other top all-terrain tires in its class, like the BF Goodrich T/A K02 and Michelin LTX. However you can save yourself a decent chunk of change since Kumho has priced it below many of the similar tires in the category.
