Looking for a tire that can handle rough winter driving conditions? Look no further as this is one of our best winter tires.
The Latitude X-Ice Xi2 is Michelin’s flagship winter tire aimed at the drivers of light trucks, SUV’s and crossover vehicles. It balances superb winter traction with impressive handling on dry and wet roads. They’re long lasting and steering, traction and braking are excellent in most winter conditions.
The Latitude X-Ice Xi2 features Michelin’s Flex-Ice silica-based winter tread rubber compound, which uses high quantities of a silica-silane filler to increase wet traction, lower rolling resistance, extend the tread life, and keep the tread flexible and responsive in low temperatures.
And molded into the Latitude X-ice Xi2’s tread grooves are snow platform indicators that let you know when the remaining tread depth is unable to provide effective traction in deep snow and on thick ice.
The Latitude X-Ice Xi2 handles extremely well in light to moderate packed snow and you can drive with confidence without sliding or slipping, however, due to its shallow tread, the latitude struggles to dig its way through deep snow. Rather than digging in, they seem to float when driving on thick layers of snow.
The Latitude X-ice Xi2 has fantastic hydroplane resistance and delivers powerful traction and handling on wet roads. The Latitude utilizes micro pump sipes, which are tiny holes drilled into the tread blocks to suck up the thin layer of water on wet and icy surfaces for better grip. And features a unique step groove design that helps push the tire through snow and ice.
Snow tires often have a kind of squishy feel to them on dry roads, but Michelin have corrected this issue by using Cross Z sipes to increase the Latitude’s stiffness and handling stability. They hold firm when cornering and communicate plenty of feedback as you approach the limit. On the highway and dry pavement you don’t hear any road noise. They’re a comfortable, quiet and durable tire that will get you to your destination safely in all types of weather conditions.
It’s difficult to find any faults with the Michelin Latitude X-Ice Xi2. Most brand don’t back their winter tires with a tread wear warranty, but the Latitude X-ice Xi2 is the exception. Michelin back their tire with an outstanding 40,000 mile treadwear warranty, and claim that the tread life lasts up to 75% longer than other competitor snow tires.
And while they’re better on dry and wet pavement and wear better than blizzaks, they don’t offer the same levels of traction and handling on snow and ice covered roads due to its shallow tread.
The Latitude X-Ice Xi2 has the three peak mountain snowflake symbol branded on the sidewall to demonstrate that the tire has met the industry’s severe snow service requirements. To get the best performance out of these tires, Michelin recommends installing them in sets of four only.
