Belonging to the max performance summer category, the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 is a member of the Michelin family of low profile, high speed tires. Designed specifically for high-powered sports cars, the PS2 combines world-class dry road traction with responsive handling and powerful cornering.

Now before I begin, I must warn you, this tire isn’t the most suitable choice for your regular daily driving conditions. The Michelin Pilot PS2 is specifically for serious drivers who enjoy aggressive mountain drives on quiet roads or want to unleash their car’s power on the tracks.

The PS2 features two different tread rubber compounds molded into an asymmetric design. The clever engineers over at Michelin placed a softer compound on the outside of the tire for maximum dry traction, and a high-silica compound in the inside of the tire for better wear, wet handling and high-speed grip.

Steering is highly responsive and clearly communicates the feel of the road. You’ll find yourself pushing your car to and beyond the limit more often due to the extra confidence the PS2 gives you in your driving ability. Without a doubt, the Ps2 is a dedicated driving enthusiasts dream tire. The PS2 uses variable contact patch technology to increase, rather than decrease its size under lateral load, meaning the harder you push, the more rubber is being pressed into the pavement.

Excellent dry grip without giving anything up in the wet.

While primarily adapted for dry conditions, the PS2’s wet weather performance is sure to take you by surprise. In order to enhance wet traction, the inside tread design features wide circumferential grooves and lateral notches to evacuate water from the tire’s contact patch and the road surface. So a downpour of rain won’t necessarily mean you have to hold back and limit your driving fun.

Michelin PILOT SPORT PS2 Tread

Now due to the sporty nature of the tire, there’s a direct tradeoff for performance in favor of ride comfort. The PS2 makes no attempt to hide what it truly is. A tire strictly for drivers who want to maximize their car’s potential. And unfortunately, a slightly harsh ride is the price you have to pay.

Tread life is another factor that isn’t high on the PS2’s priority list. Don’t be surprised if they burn out quickly, particularly the rear tires, and especially if you use them for their true purpose, which is for quick bursts of intense driving pleasure and discovering the limit of what your car can handle.

Pricey, but worth it.

Available in 59 sizes, from 17 to 22 inches, the PS2 is exclusively for drivers that want performance and are willing to pay for it. They may be expensive, but there’s avoiding the fact that as the single most important factor in vehicle performance, tires are worth paying for. And there’s no denying that the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 delivers on all fronts. These tires will significantly improve your car’s capabilities so you can accelerate harder and faster and corner at higher speeds with confidence.
