According to former champion driver and CEO of Dream Racing Enrico Bertaggia, racing is not always about the car. More than anything else, the performance of a car is greatly affected by the tires it has got on.

You are probably wondering where I am going with this race-ist agenda, right?

Pirelli P ZERO ALL SEASON PLUS Tread

Well, Pirelli Tire North America has been able to prove that Bertaggia’s words are indeed true. Meet the newest member of the ultra-high performance all-season tire lineup, the Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus.

This tire is most certainly the god’s answer to all your high performance tire prayers. If you are a car enthusiast like me, here’s a tire that has been built to deliver shorter stopping distances, precision handling and increased traction. I don’t think a majority of us could ask for more.

What is the Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus?

The P Zero All Season Plus is an advanced tire manufactured by Pirelli using a special all-season compound. This compound contains polymers and silica which give the tire greater grip on both dry band wet surfaces. Pirelli developed the P Zero All Season Plus for use on powerful sports cars, sedans and coupes whose owners seek the much desired Pirelli prestige and an all year round package. This is a tire that you can confidently drive in all seasons; even take on a few inches of snow.

Features

  • An advanced all season tread compound made of special silica and polymers which increases traction in all kinds of weather conditions.
  • The tread compound is molded into an asymmetric design pattern that has variable size tread elements to minimize noise inside the car.
  • Five distinct rib designs to promote performance in all weather conditions.
  • Lateral siping on the outboard shoulder blocks to maximize cornering.
  • Circumferential grooves to flush out water from under the wheel, resisting hydroplaning.
  • Winter sipes in the inboard blocks to enhance tread pattern stability and provide more traction on snow.
  • A variable tension control cap on the twin steel belt reinforced interior to adjust the foot print shape for greater driving comfort.

Dry Performance

On dry surface, this tire shows some minor signs of squeakiness at first but easily smoothes out. They might even feel a bit bumpy at first but warm them up and they stick nicely to dry pavement. The steering response and general handling is quite impressive and it without a doubt tells you they definitely were made for a spirited drive.

Wet Performance

This tire provides excellent grip on wet surfaces. You can confidently make a panic stop from more than 120 km/h and then floor it all over again. To a nice set of these tires, wet ramps are just but a walkover. The circumferential groove and lateral sipes do an excellent job.

Winter Performance

This P Zero unfortunately is not the tire you’d want your car shoed with in deep snow. The handling is poor and will make it impossible to get through thick snow. Moreover, it does not provide the optimal performance and traction you would wish to have during winter.

The Bottom Line

The P Zero All Season Plus has done more than just live up to Pirelli’s promise of fantastic performance. This tire gives you an impression you cannot get with most UHP tires, especially with its handling on dry pavement. I would say it is a high-ranking UHP all-season tire that should be on your shopping list.
