When winter is at its harshest, you need a tire that keeps you safe and in control at all times. After all, this tire made it on our list of best winter tires.

The Scorpion Winter is Pirelli’s winter tire for the drivers of high-end sport pickups, crossovers and sport utility vehicles.

Now normally a winter tire sacrifices dry performance in order to achieve high-levels of traction and handling on snow and ice, but that’s not the case with the Scorpion Winter. It blends great dry performance and cornering with decent snow and ice traction. Put the Pirelli Scorpion Winter on your car and you’ll notice an immediate difference in handling, stopping and cornering on all surfaces.

Winter Performance

To indicate that the tire meets the industry’s standards for severe snow service, the Pirelli Scorpion Winter is branded with the mountain snowflake symbol.

While light snow and plowed surfaces are no challenge for the Pirelli Scorpion Winter, they don’t deliver the level of traction and handling you need if you live in an area with cold temperatures where snow falls regularly and turns into ice on the road. The tread pattern lacks aggressiveness to dig through deep snow and latch onto icy surfaces.

There are better, safer tires out there, such as the Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V1. However, if you’re looking for a tire that can handle the occasional snowfall and still offer spirited driving when the roads are dry, the Pirelli Scorpion Winter is the tire for you.

Pirelli SCORPION WINTER Tread

The Pirelli Scorpion Winter’s rubber compound combines a new polymer blend with a high silica content that’s molded into a directional tread design which boasts a rounder tread profile and bulky shoulders for predictable handling and cornering on dry roads. The high silica content in the tread compound allows the Scorpion Winter to retain its flexibility in low temperatures for solid grip and handling in both wet and cold conditions.

For extra bite in snow and ice, Pirelli have added unique snow booster ridges to the bottom the Scorpion Winter’s grooves for improved traction and shorter stopping distances.

The Pirelli Scorpion Winter delivers a very comfortable ride on all types of pavement in all sorts of conditions. And they produce zero road noise. So whether you’re out driving on the highway or simply cruising around the town, you won’t hear a whisper out of them.

Dry Performance

The Scorpion Winter is nothing but plain fun to drive on dry pavement. They handle corners with confidence at all speeds and steering responsiveness is just as good as many all-season tires. As for tread life, they wear well and you can expect to see around 50,000 miles out of a set, but be warned, if you’re regularly driving them in warm weather they’ll wear much faster.

The Scorpion Winter has Pirelli’s Ecoimpact icons branded on the sidewalls to highlight the tire’s contribution to the environment with regards to energy efficiency, clean air and low noise.

To help ensure proper vehicle control, Pirelli recommend that you use their Scorpion Winter tires in sets of four only.
