Signaling Yokohama’s maiden forage into the all-year standard touring mass produced tire market in the USA, this tire is a significant move by the Japanese manufacturer. It is created as a versatile product that is meant to cater for the needs of a diverse range of drivers. Meant for coupes, minivans and sedans, the tire definitely has to deliver great performance to outcompete current offerings. Our Yokohama Avid Ascend review does a fine job of finding out just how well the tire fares among a host of established competitors.

Eco-Friendly Hard Worker

Just looking at the tire, it’s hard to miss the BlueEarth eco – friendly tag marked on its length. This seal is a promise of a minimized carbon footprint and increased fuel efficiency. The tire is characterized by a slightly incongruous tread pattern that is made up of tri – ride segments. These are meant to accentuate traction on dry surfaces and assist with water removal thus reducing hydroplaning.

As a way to ensure stable handling, even in sharp cornering, the tires are fitted with wide shoulder wedges that are interlinked by tread bridges. This enhances sensitivity and overall responsiveness as well. The spine of the tire has an embedded mid rib that provides invariable surface contact. The end result is a tire that has improved straight line tracking and boasts uniform wear.

Good For The Short Term

Not a lot can be said to fault the Yokohama Avid Ascend tires. One area of improvement is the tread wear. Owners complain about the tire not lasting as long as one would expect from the average tire. While sticking to a regular rotation routine can extend the life of one’s tires, this doesn’t seem to be the case with the Avid Ascends.

The other issue with the Yokohama tires is a general lack of traction in snow and ice driving conditions. When driving on such surfaces, the tires slip quite a lot and fail to deliver when it comes to deep snow driving. These are some of the few gripes that the Yokohama Avid Ascend tires have.

Other than that, the superiority of this tire is quite evident in the following aspects:

Yokohama Avid Ascend M

  • Cross grooves and circumferential furrow design prevent hydroplaning by augmenting water evacuation
  • Three dimensional adaptable sipes give increased tread block solidity increasing durability
  • Gnawing tire perimeter gives added traction in slippery conditions
  • Twin braces that are internally supported by buttressed nylon and polyester weaving
  • Orange Oil innovation that strengthens the structure of the natural and synthetic rubber amalgam of the tire

Yokohama engineers have never been ones to create a sub-standard product, due to their rigorous production process and cutting edge technology. This Yokohama Avid Ascend review proves that the manufacturer did not cut any corners here as well. While the tire does fall short in some areas, on the whole, it delivers what has come to be expected in its segment.
